Understanding Your Chess Accuracy Percentage

Accuracy percentage summarizes how closely your moves matched what the engine considered best, across an entire game. A 100% game means every move you played was the engine's top choice; lower percentages reflect moves that gave up some amount of advantage.

It's easy to assume a higher rating always means higher accuracy, but that isn't quite right. A 2000-rated player pushing hard for a win in a sharp position might post a lower accuracy than a 1200-rated player playing a quiet, simple game - accuracy measures precision in that specific game, not overall skill.

A useful way to use accuracy: track it over many of your own games rather than comparing single games to other players. If your average accuracy trends upward over weeks or months, that's a solid, concrete sign you're making fewer costly mistakes.
